The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) is working on the arrangements for launching the Doha Historical Dictionary of Arabic project. The third meeting of the Experts Seminar will be held on Mar 10th, 2013 to pursue the planning of the project including esp. its administrative structure and implementation phases, and also to present some experimental examples of its lexical entries.

ACRPS has previously held the first Experts Seminar on 10-11 Nov. 2012 where an elite of Arabic linguists and computer scientists participated along with representatives of interested regional, academic, and research organizations.

The participants in the first seminar discussed the issues of the Historical Dictionary of Arabic as per its implementation plan, its text corpus, and the deployment of advanced software technologies for its accomplishment. The participating organizations presented their capacities that can scientifically and technically support this project.

The planning of the Historical Dictionary of Arabic project has to rely on an extended review of both the successful and unlucky, as well as the Arabic and the non-Arabic attempts in this regard. It should also consider the best of relevant research, studies, ideas, and proposals published in respected periodicals and conferences.
